2012 Belle Rivière
This small production reflects a lively Rhône style marsanne.
100/100 marsanne Clone 1083 harvested in Monterey County in September 2012.
Tight pruning kept this prolific grape under control and after an optimum growing season, mild winter, cool spring and warm summer. We finally harvested the marsanne during the pre-dawn hours. The grapes were brought back to the winery at night by the vineyard manager, fresh and in perfect condition.
After the marsanne settled down overnight, we moved it to a brand new pungeon and fermented it for almost a month. We let the malolactic fermentation go half of the way, employing a ‘bâtonnage’ to improve the mouthfeel and add creaminess and complexity. Aged a total of 8 months, this wine is ready to drink.
An intriguing bouquet mixed with white fruit and lychee nuts. This varietal is also well known for developing, citrusy and even orangey flavors that will linger for few minutes after swallowing. Ever brilliant and crisp, Belle Rivière should be consumed chilled within the next 5 years.
